With an unwavering commitment to entertaining, affirming, and educating players, Rainbow Viking’s mission is not just about creating games—it’s about fostering connection and understanding among diverse groups.
A Game for Everyone:
The Rainbow Quest Tabletop Board Game
At the heart of Rainbow Viking’s offerings is the celebrated Rainbow Quest Tabletop Board Game. This game has resonated with gaming groups, families, community centers, schools, therapists, and activity directors serving the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. Its universal appeal lies in its thoughtful design, which encourages players of all ages to engage in meaningful interactions while exploring themes of acceptance, diversity, and collaboration.
Rainbow Quest immerses players in an imaginative world that not only entertains but also enriches their understanding of LGBTQ+ experiences. By blending fun with educational elements, the game provides a platform for players to learn about different identities, cultures, and points of view, ultimately promoting empathy and solidarity within and outside the LGBTQ+ community.
Community-Centric Approach
Rainbow Viking LLC thrives on a community-centric philosophy. This approach is reflected not only in their game design but also in their outreach initiatives. The company is a corporate sponsor of the Rainbow Quest! non-profit 501c3 organization which has positioned itself as a valuable resource for organizations that serve LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies. Through strategic partnerships with schools, therapy centers, and community organizations, Rainbow Quest! successfully integrates gaming experiences into various settings, nurturing environments where players can celebrate diversity and inclusivity together.
Moreover, their games have proven to be impactful tools for education and affirmation, as they encourage discussions around identity, acceptance, and shared experiences. In doing so, Rainbow Viking is not merely a game publisher; it is a catalyst for positive change and understanding within communities.
Looking Ahead:
Expansions and Accessibility
With an eye toward the future, Rainbow Viking is not resting on its laurels. The company has ambitious plans for new game versions and expansion packs that will diversify the Rainbow Quest experience further. Additionally, in recognition of the importance of accessibility, they are developing a long-awaited Spanish translation of the game. This move underscores Rainbow Viking’s dedication to reaching a wider audience and ensuring that their games can be enjoyed by Spanish-speaking communities, thus affirming their commitment to inclusivity on a global scale.
A Tribute to Legacy
The story of Rainbow Viking LLC is also a tribute to love and partnership. Founded by Dr. Kaufman and the late Martin Swinger, the company reflects the values and vision that the couple shared. Their legacy continues to live on through every game, as Rainbow Viking upholds the mission to entertain while embodying the spirit of affirmation, education, and unity.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, the need for diverse voices and perspectives is becoming ever more apparent. Rainbow Viking LLC is a shining example of how businesses can create enriching experiences that celebrate diversity and foster connection. Brian J. Kaufman
Project Manager & Owner
Brian Kaufman, Ph.D., is a seasoned psychologist with a rich background spanning over four decades in academia, specializing in areas such as Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Group Dynamics, Diversity and Multiculturalism, and Child and Adolescent Development. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Kaufman has dedicated his career to advocating for the LGBTQ+ community across various locations, including Albany, NY, Norfolk, VA, Augusta, ME, and Asbury Park, NJ.
His commitment to social justice and mental health is reflected in his roles as an Executive Board member of the Maine AIDS Alliance and the Safe Schools Coalition, where he tirelessly worked to combat the stigma, bullying, and suicidality associated with HIV, sexual orientation, and gender expression. With thirty years of experience facilitating social support groups throughout Maine’s urban and rural areas, Dr. Kaufman has also worked with statewide chapters of GLSEN and SAGE, emphasizing the importance of advocacy and programming for both youth and adults.
The inspiration for the Rainbow Quest! board game arose from Dr. Kaufman’s extensive observations of the life cycles of Gay-Straight Alliances and various social support groups. Recognizing the common challenges faced by attendees, he collaborated for roughly 15 years with his late husband, Martin Swinger, an arts educator and songwriter, to create an engaging, ready-to-use activity focused on affirming the queer community, while remaining inclusive for allies.
Rainbow Quest! not only promises fun but also fosters a safe environment for meaningful discussions, authentic pride, and interpersonal connections among players. Dr. Kaufman’s mission is clear: to ensure that every “gayme” event, as well as schools and libraries, incorporate Rainbow Quest! into their educational programming, thereby making the world a better and safer place for all.
